Le Cat, the Quirky Cat from Belgium

Le Cat, the beloved Belgian comic character, was created in 1980 by artist Philippe Geluck. The character gained wider recognition in 1983 when it began serialization in the Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir, eventually becoming a cultural icon throughout Europe.

As Geluck describes, Le Cat reflects a love for the absurd and surreal, delivering witty, impactful messages with a style that’s both direct and distinctive. Breaking from the conventional four-panel format, Le Cat’s unique three-panel structure—setup, development, punchline—lends his humor a sense of realism and sharpness.

Much like Garfield or Snoopy, Le Cat blends childlike innocence with grown-up wit, earning affection from audiences across generations and geographies in Asia and beyond.
